ITU’s BDT Director Visits TRB to Strengthen Digital Cooperation

On Monday, February 16, 2026, the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) welcomed a delegation from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) at the Platinum Building. The mission was led by Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), accompanied by Emmanuel Manasseh, ITU Regional Director for Africa, along with several officials from Central Africa and Madagascar and the Secretary General of MINPOSTEL, Mohamadou Saoudi.

The ceremony opened with the performance of Cameroon’s national anthem. Zourmba Aboubakar, Deputy Director General of the TRB, representing Professor Philémon Zoo Zame, delivered the welcome address, underscoring the significance of this visit for the telecommunications sector.

Following this, Thomas Marcellin Manyanye, Director of Strategy and Foresight at the TRB, presented the agency’s mandate, organizational framework, and technical tools, highlighting its role in fostering digital development and regulating the market.

Dr. Cosmas Zavazava then addressed the audience, focusing on current challenges and promising prospects for the sector. He emphasized the urgent need to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive connectivity, leveraging emerging technologies and artificial intelligence. He stressed that these innovations provide tangible opportunities to accelerate universal access to digital services and drive socio-economic growth.

The meeting continued with exchanges between the ITU delegation and TRB officials, followed by a group photo, and concluded with a convivial reception on the eighth floor of the Platinum Building.

This visit, which began yesterday and will continue until February 18, 2026, reflects the strength of the partnership between the TRB, MINPOSTEL, and the ITU. It marks an important milestone in their shared commitment to building a telecommunications sector that is inclusive, efficient, and aligned with international standards.

By hosting the ITU delegation, the TRB reaffirms its strategic role in regulating and supporting digital development, while consolidating Cameroon’s position in global discussions on the future of telecommunications.
